What is GEDCOM?

GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is the standard format for genealogical data (file ending .ged) for example the people in a family tree and their familial relationships.

Import GEDCOM-data

You can upload GEDCOM-data to your family tree for free on itsourtree.com. However, please note that you can only upload GEDCOM-data onto your tree if you are the only person in the tree!

To import proceed as follows:

• Click on the import icon in the lower righthand corner of your tree (The icon is only visible if you are the only person in your tree). Our website can import the GEDCOM-formats of most genealogy-applications (GEDCOM-versions 5.5x and 6.0).
• Upload your GEDCOM-file.
• A list of names from the GEDCOM-file will show up. Please choose your own name.
• The data will be imported into the tree.

Export GEDCOM-data

You can save and download your tree on itsourtree.com without any charge.

For the export proceed as follows:

• Click on the export icon in the lower righthand corner of your tree.
• A dialogue window will open automatically.
• Choose "Save on harddisk" and click OK.
